Karl Rausch Rattan Lounge Chairs, pair Baker Furniture, Grand Rapids late 1970's
Pair of intricately designed rattan arm chairs in original mahogany finish.
23" W x 23" D x 35"H
Karl Rausch, a German manufacturer, designer, and entrepreneur developed these casual chairs in Asia for Baker Furniture in approximately 1976. These items were offered as part of a much larger Baker collection known as "Baker Contemporary," which included other groups in natural elements such as palmyra, rattan and bamboo from the late 1970's. Bent, curved, and intricately pieced, these chairs are made with curved rattan frame and arms, pieced bamboo backs, and cane seat.
Interesting and fun provenance with direct descent through the family of the President of Baker Furniture until present acquisition by MassModern.
Elegant Asian style arm chairs in very nice vintage condition. Complete. Creaky, but 35 years sturdy and strong. Cane seats are complete and in good condition. Very minor finish chips to cane seat. Intended for loose pad seat (not shown).
