The Kittinger Furniture Company of Buffalo New York has a long history of manufacturing and marketing fine traditional American mahogany furniture. Kittinger furniture is found in the finest homes in America, in great executive office situations, and throughout the White House in Washington, DC.
While Kittinger is well known for traditional “reproduction” furniture, there have been brushes with modernism throughout the company’s history. As recently as 2006, Kittinger won a “Best of NEOCON” award for their new Eclipse series of technologically advanced conference tables.
Our Gallery Director was privileged to lead the Kittinger residential marketing and sales effort for a period in the early 1990's, during which the company acquired the Helikon Company. For many years Helikon was a division of Herman Miller, producing a variety of items from their Modern Classics line in Taftsville, CT, including the seminal 670/671 Lounge Chair and Ottoman by Charles Eames.
Modern Kittinger designs are often linked with a number of important designers from the 20th Century, including Isabel Berringer, Theodore Muller, and James Mont. We’re not certain of these attributions, and any documentary information would be greatly appreciated.
